Yes indeed, there is Gold in these hills. Not just the specks that competitors at the 31st Australian Goldpanning Championships were sluicing for, but in the music, gardens, parties, history and community groups that infuse Blackwoodians’ lives. All of these are featured in this bumper Issue.

This issue comes out on the eve of the 125th Blackwood Woodchop & Easter Carnival, an event that features one of the oldest woodchopping competitions in Victoria and winner of Moorabool Shire’s Community Event of the Year. No doubt this fun day out for the whole family will be well-supported but also worth our support are the regular music concerts held in The Chapel. Without greater attendance these may become unviable!

Alongside the joy and happiness accompanying St Patrick’s Day celebrations, weddings and birthdays there is some sadness with the recent passing of three dear friends. For the last 15 years they have enriched the streets of Blackwood, raised a smile from us locals and thoroughly deserve our small tribute – Vinnie and Max in this issue and Poncho next time.

Finally, our bi-monthly paper flourishes through the contributions of locals and one, Gracie White, regularly submits images and cryptic comments that we often use as fillers. The images for the Blackwood wedding feature more of her work than usual. Thanks Gracie.
