This mid-winter issue of The Times reveals several creative strategies utilised by Blackwoodians to stay warm in winter. Personally I’m not sure about the ice bath dunking but apparently all is good a short while after. Raising $21,000 was an amazing achievement and, as Jerry said,“.. showed how generous and community-minded Blackwood is.” Running around the bush tracks or kicking up heels at the disco clearly did the trick for many and I think the Bookclub ‘cunning plan’ was to stay indoors by a log fire – like many of us. Volunteers warmed up by painting the Historical Society or planting out with the Landcare Group. On the subject of volunteers, Jeanne & Kylie gave some a good wrap in the last Issue and provided some insights into what motivates this good work. Personally I fluctuate between mad, missionary, mercenary and/or misfit. Much of this voluntary work goes unheralded and a good example of this is the persistent effort, particularly those of Peter Fowler, to get the 8 year old septic problem at the Caravan Park fixed. This saga involved the installer, Council, regulators et al with no one accepting responsibility so there have been many meetings and much correspondence but, at long last DEECA has granted $35,000 for the fix. Finally, to Nicole & Wyatt doing a great job at the Caravan Park – apologies for overlooking your article last issue.
