I thought it timely to use this Summer issue of the Times to do a huge shout out to the incredible first response volunteers who go a long way to keeping our community safe. To the 21 amazing people who make up the Blackwood CFA brigade and the 6 skilful Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members we say thank you. The work you do is challenging and often high risk, but you do it, not for financial gain, but to support your local communities. You have our utmost respect and appreciation. What an interesting Summer it has been so far. A pretty freakish hailstorm in December followed by a heatwave in January that led to Moorabool’s first Catastrophic fire danger rating since the new system commenced in 2022. An explanation of the Australian Fire Danger Rating System and information about how to stay safe this fire season is also included in this issue.
Christmas and the New Year have come and gone and Blackwood celebrated with style. Thank you to regular contributors Peter Donnelly and Gracie White for the fantastic photos we are able to share from over the silly season. At the time of putting this issue together we are also about to celebrate the first birthday of our renovated pub. Congratulations to Jerry and the team for all you have done to bring the pub back to life and create a place enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. All of us here at The Blackwood Times hope you have had a great start to 2026 and wish you all the best for the months ahead.
