There is no place quite like Blackwood, as this issue so clearly shows. From our Easter Carnival to bushwalking and musical events, from the tireless work of our many community groups, to the richness of our shared history, these pages celebrate the people, places and spirit that make Blackwood such a special community.

The Blackwood Times is put together by a small group of volunteers working collaboratively to produce our bi-monthly newsletter which has a print run of 400-500 copies. We have distribution stands in five Blackwood venues, five Trentham venues and the Greendale Hotel. It also goes to councillors and politicians to increase their awareness of local issues. The State Library of Victoria also receives a copy as an important historical reference.

Our stands have a slot for a donation. I am delighted when I empty the stands and find paper money along with coins. These donations, with advertising income, pay for the printing of the Times. We do not receive funding from any other sources. To me this is quite an achievement!

I loved doing the articles I put together for this issue and especially the interviews with veteran woodchopper Don Hansford and our Chieftain Kathy Howolko. They both are champions in their own field.

A special thanks to our tech-savvy Secretary Paul Kukiel who does a great job of managing submissions and inserting them into our Dropbox system, to Kathy Berrill for photo management and to Alison Acevedo our masterful graphic designer.

Stay warm everyone

Jeanne Tahini, Editor for this issue
